Big Data in Radio Astronomy

2014 – Radio Astronomy is perhaps the area with the biggest occurrence of Big Data. The field researches our universe with the help of huge radio telescopes not only to find out if there is life on other planets than our own, but also to know more about how the environment on earth works and what other planets tell us about our home planet to help prevent economical issues. Unfathomable big data volume is being saved on super computers and evaluated.

I had the chance to interview a radio astronomer at the Max-Planck-Institute in Bonn, Germany, who told me how they work with Big Data and also afforded me to have a look behind the scenes.
